Azan Way: AdFree KIbla & Adhan

What it is

An iPhone and iPad app for the five daily prayers, in English, Italian and Arabic. Version 1.0 came out on 30 September 2026.

The Today screen draws the day as the path of the sun. Dhuhr sits at the top of the arc, sunrise and Maghrib on the horizon, and Fajr and Isha just beyond them. A small marker shows the current time, and a countdown says how long is left until the next prayer. You can look up to 30 days ahead or back.

Why I made it

There was no similar app adfree, made to help people pray on time and face the Qibla.

How I made it

The app works out the prayer times on the phone from astronomical formulas, so it doesn't need an internet connection. It has 12 calculation methods, including Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, ISNA and Turkey, and you can choose Shafi'i or Hanafi for Asr. If your mosque's timetable is a few minutes off, you can shift any prayer by up to an hour.

The compass turns with the phone so north stays north, and on iPhone you feel a light tap when you're facing the Qibla. It needs location access to find true north. Without it, or on a device with no compass, the app still gives the bearing in degrees.

Reminders are optional, at the prayer time or ten minutes before, plus one at sunrise for the end of Fajr. They go out as Time Sensitive notifications, so a Focus or a Scheduled Summary can't hold them back.

Settings stay on the phone. Searching for a city goes through Apple's location service, so that part needs an internet connection. The whole app is 1.7 MB.

What I learned

Compasses are not easy to code!
